About the Course

"The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them. The hunt to uncover those jewels—that’s creative living." — Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic

This is not a book club or a writing class. Instead we use poetry and short prose as a way in to our heart and body to find those ‘strange jewels’ -  feelings, memories, wisdom, stories and ideas. They may emerge in the form of a reflection, an idea for something new, a poem or the start of a story. Or have no form at all, and you just want to sit with the words shared. We welcome it all and we welcome all. I have hosted this circle for mothers, CEOs, small business owners, writers, retirees, students and more. It offers a pause, a refuelling of creativity, community and a way to connect to ourselves and others.

Fieldwork Sessions: We start each session with a short energy practice and free-write to get us present and in flow. Each week we will explore 3–5 poems or short/flash fiction pieces in circle, centred around a different theme. We read them together before using them as springboards for our own reflection, ideas, and writing. There is optional group sharing. Fieldwork is less about craft and more about creative flow and the power of expression.

You can read testimonials from past participants about the safe and nourishing space that is a Fieldwork Expressive Writing Circle. I start one to two new online circles (almost) every month with in-person coming soon. Each group is capped at 8 participants so as to ensure everyone can be heard and that a beautiful sense of trust is built between participants.

Private & Community Bookings: I also offer this privately for friendship groups, clubs, associations, aged care homes, corporate events, and more. Please get in touch and we can start to discuss costs and possible venues. I also offer several of these free each year to charities or groups such as healthcare workers and those who might not otherwise have access to this offering.
